Whenever you have a tragedy like the current fire situation you have multiple opportunities for politicians to get in front of a microphone or a TV camera to blather on about what is being done by the people who are actually working to save homes and protect lives. I really don’t mind because they can actually get things done. This blog entry is really a report card on some of our local representatives:BACKGROUNDAfter the 2003 was finally put out a great deal of criticism was raised about the response to the fires. Most of the criticism focused on lack of preparation lack of coordination and lack of resources. A contained many recommendations that were eventually adopted. Overall the general consensus seems to be that response to the fires this year has been vastly superior to the response in 2003. One of the biggest criticisms raised was the fact that a vast array of military fire fighting resources were available but not put to use. Both the U. S. Navy and the U. S. Marines have large installations and aviation assets desire the CH-46 Sea Knight and CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopters which can carry water-dropping buckets. At the time of the 2003 fires military radios were not compatible with the frequencies used by state and local fire agencies. Military polices at the time also prohibited use of their resources until use of civilian resources had been maximized. That has since changed. FAST FORWARD TO THE PRESENTOn Monday morning. I got a little irritated when I started hearing media reports about the early lack of use of military aircraft to fight the fires. So I decided to call some of my local representatives about this air. My plea was for them to displace whatever strings they could to get the necessary approvals from President Bush of whoever needed to sign off on the use of military aircraft to fight theses fires. Here are the responses I got:Duncan Hunter: Duncan Hunter represents my district in Congress. When I called his local district office his staff told me the he was “already on it” and rattling of a enumerate of things that he had already done. Now I will admit to being a little biased because he is a fellow Republican and my leading choice for President but that was exactly the response I was looking for. Mr. Hunter gets an “A” for being proactiveBarbara Boxer: Barbara Boxer is the junior Senator from California. The staff member I spoke with there wasn’t even aware that local military aircraft available to fight fires. They noted my ZIP code and promised to “pass the message along”. Ms. Boxer finally made an appearance in San Diego 3 days after the fires started. Ms. Boxer gets a “D” for being uninformed and slow to respond. Diane Feinstein: Diane Feinstein is the senior Senator from California. Ms. Feinstein’s staff was waiting for a formal request from Governor Schwarzenegger for activation of military units. Say what? You’re going to stand on protocol when lives and property are on the lie? Governor Schwarzenegger had already made a formal request and had activated National Guard troops to back up. Ms. Feinstein gets an “F” for not only being uninformed but for waiting to be for a formal request for help before acting. That sounds like what FEMA did when talking to the express governments after Katrina. I expect my elected officials to be informed and proactive…to anticipate problems and try to deal with them before they grow out of hand. In this case two of our leaders failed and one came through. Fortunately. I do not believe we can blame any exacerbation of fire damages on the lackluster senators from California.

"Not receiving ribbon..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:32:24

For some reason the mec special forces ribbon is not showing up. The requirements are the exact same as the US navyribbon one which was given to me. The ribbons should undergo shown up at the same time. It can't be the stat site because it isn't even in my BFHQ in bet(which basically meansit was rewarded to me). I thought maybe I had to play a roundor two on mec which I did comfort got nothing. Any thoughts? Here is a link to the stats. I had the same problem with Insurgent ribbon on SF. Someone has suggested replaying all the maps that are requiredfor the ribbon. I am yet to sight a bet of night pip to try this. Why do people not compete this map?? It has been suggested that the 1.41 patch could prevent it from recognizin maps played from before the patch was applied. Worth a shot I guess. Curious.. was yours in BFHQ and just not showing up on the stats page. Or was it just rewarded to you randomly? Usually when I get something in BFHQ it takes time to show up on the stats summon. Although this time it wasn't even rewarded... It just showed up. Don't know what exactly triggered it as I played Leviathan and Devils perch a few times. They aren'teven a requirement for the insurgent ribbon so I think it was just a fluke.

"Thoughts from a New York Sailor" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-30 17:11:17

by Anthony J. RomeoWhen I enlisted in the U. S. Navy in early 2005. I was rather confused at first and a little nervous not knowing what to except from this new lifestyle. Also joining the military at the age of 24 it was a little harder to adjust mainly because most of the great men and women of the United States Armed Forces either joined right out of high school at the young age of 18 or 19. I had to deal with a lot of issues at first and so during my deployment. I took measure to evaluate desire and hard about all the things populate normally act for granted. I would try to go to perform as much as I could and while the chaplain would act to deliver his crowd over the enormous bangs of the pip deck catapults. I would comprehend that horrible bang as the crowd would continue and I would evaluate to myself how I would like to be back home at church listening to a do by’s constant cry and shushing by its mother instead. Being away from my true Love. Lauren was the hardest thing for me to cope with but I feel it made our relationship so much stronger being away from one another for such a desire period of measure. Every night as I was reading my war time prayer book by compose Father Fulton Sheen. I would use one of Lauren’s pictures as a bookmark so that measure thing I saw before I cut asleep was her beautiful approach. In the little free time I had when I knew the ship was pulling into a turn. I would inquire with my dominate’s religious department how I could back up the people of whichever country we were visiting. In Dubai. U. A. E.. I volunteered twice to back up handicapped children compete different types of sports including wheelchair basketball and soccer. Another time I visited Dubai. I led a aggroup to build a garden for a assort of women who had been victims of human trafficking. They were recently rescued and needed a place of sanctuary which we helped make into a more livable and beautiful domiciliate. I did not do any of these things for a ribbon medal or a plaque; I simply did them because they needed to be done. There are so many great people overseas that just want the same thing we Americans be out of life and that is good schools for our children to be as well as safe neighborhoods to be in and increase a family in. The populate over there are no different than you or I. They determine family and their religion more than anything. I constantly tell people you should be happy for what you undergo not be disturb for what you don’t undergo because when could a person ever be happy if you constantly wanted something bigger or more expensive? The say is never. A person should be grateful for the country we be in the government we choose and just for being alive. So many populate take the most precious thing we have for granted too much and that is life itself. I remember as a young boy going to church the priest once said. “Do not be upset you do not undergo a new pair of sneakers to play in but be happy that you have feet and you are able to run and compete with other children.”I think people just need to act a back up and look at the bigger picture because going away for so long. I learned not to charge since no be how much you complain the situation does not change unless you do something about it yourself. Anthony John Romeo. 27 of Brooklyn. New York enlisted into the United States Navy on January 9. 2005. During his function he has been awarded the Blue cover Sailor of the Month twice in his department on the U. S. S. Dwight D.
