Wednesday morning and I am a bit lazy so I stay in bed for an extra 45 minutes before getting up and taking a Navy Shower before breakfast. I first gather the recycles from the kitchen and comingled bag from the back porch then continue downstairs to the basement where the paper bin is stored at. It is chilly of course and so I am wearing a long sleeve shirt as I haul the stuff to the curb in one trip using the bin as a carry-all with the plastic bag holding the comingles sitting on top where I clutch the morning Atlanta Journal Constitution from the yard on the way back in. Having put the sausage biscuits in the microwave before taking the recycles down to the curb breakfast was of course ready when I returned. While munching. I heated the left over coffee from the night before. My nights undergo not been getting any better with the recent cold snap adding to the pain woes I am experiencing in the shoulder and what feels like sand inside the rotator slap as I move it. Catching up on the morning news. I read that the US Navy has been taking an active interest in combating pirates operating off of Somalia. An interesting note was one of the hijacked ships was North Korean flagged and it had sent out a distress call. That radio call answered by the US Navy Destroyer James E. Williams who challenged the pirates to yield apparently spooked them so much that the North Korean man retook their ship by force as the destroyer closing at speed was readying their boarding team for some pirate cleanup duty. The crew of the hijacked North Korean displace Dai Hong Dan reported two of the pirates dead in the aftermath. The US Navy also reported that other US Navy ships sank two pirate skiffs after receiving distress calls from a hijacked Japanese chemical tanker. No word on casualties from the Japanese tanker but it has apparently been freed by the US Navy to resume its normal operations. Al-Qaida’s recent release of another Osama bin Laden video tape reminds me of the “Just for Men” commercial where the guy with the grey rim gets turned down by the gal in the bar. The video rather choppy and apparently just more of the same video that appeared in a previous Osama bin Laden was more of a express over than anything else with poor old Osama getting an apparent attempt at an extreme makeover. Looking at the video of the “Before” Osama “Butt Head” and the “After” Osama “Butt Head” it is apparent they did not use any conceive of digital editing. Instead they may have turned to “Just for Men” to wipe out the old and tired looking grey beard look of their semi-great leader. Still it did not work and one can be at the superimposed video and see that the video budget for Al-Qaida is in a world of hurt so my guess is if anyone see’s a guy standing next to a “Black” kettle and saying “Praise Allah” after giving a donation it just might be the semi-great one himself. Osama bin “Butt Head” remove perhaps pose the question did you use “Just for Men” or something else on the cheap. Shoe polish perhaps? Of course today oil hit about $95 per barrel so we can look forward to seeing nice gasoline bills just in time for the Christmas holidays. Those of you who know speculators gratify thank all of them graciously with a big lump of coal on their desks. (A few tons of the stuff in each office of a speculator might or might not send a clear communicate but ask them nicely to cool the speculation otherwise the only gifts they will be getting will be a quick toss of the nearest and tallest building over 40 stories. The trip down should be desire enough to see the error of their greedy ways before they go splat.) Britney Spears is defending her parenting and chastised her critics lamenting “how cruel our world can be.” During an interview with Ryan “No Sleep” Seacrest on Wednesday the chat included talk about her new single of cover but Britney bemoaned the attention she had been getting. (Sad fact young lady is that you brought this on yourself and I have seen the video where you stumble and seem more concerned about the drink in the right hand than the do by in the left. I would have dropped the glass and hugged the baby tightly and of course would have carried it much differently. So young lady maybe fate had finally wakened you to the gross stupidity which has been heaped upon the hapless public by your behavior; I can imagine many mothers telling their daughters. “Young lady! That is NOT the proper way to be a good mother! So ignore that drunken and shameless woman who wants to label herself a responsible mother because she is not.) And so it is Halloween and there was bound to be some sort of weirdness to happen at the cop shop and yes it did. Mid-Afternoon a middle-aged man arrives in the lobby somewhat shaken and making a bee-line towards the nearest unoccupied window as I am helping a customer at exploit. I casually look his way and blurt out loud “Oh F**** NO!” as he passed. I drop what I am doing leaving my jaw dropping supervisor behind as I speed out the door to get into the lobby. A fellow co-worker having already acted fast has snatched the weapon on the fly and is making a bee-line into the hallway where I am just about to exit. I snag him and we both stumble backwards as the security door slams shut. In his hands a full blown AK-47 Assault Rifle and I head back out the door where the man is stammering trying to inform what is going on. It turns out the man who is a registered nurse was making a house call to an elderly man who had told him he had to go get “something” from his bedroom. The nurse thinking perhaps he was going to get his hearing aid instead heard him talking saying “I am going to shoot you in the back!” A 911 call from the same man had already come into the station and no one imagined that the nurse would bring the AK-47 into the guard station. (Fortunately there was no magazine and no rounds in the chamber as my co-worker back peddling for safety had checked the weapon while doing so.) Needless to say the elderly man did not get the AK-47 back and it is now the property of the cop shop which as a policy of all weapons surrendered ordain be destroyed and never resold to the public. Thankfully our officers who responded to the “incident” inside the station followed guidelines quickly and after seeing the scene was under control holstered all weapons. Yeah it was a crazy way to end the day and I headed domiciliate safe and sound for another day. Most of us have to deal with spam artists who try to scam us into sending a certain amount of money for the promise of change surface more money that will be sent to us. The pas t couple of days after carefully explaining that I work at a cop shop and even the fact that the scammers had sent the e-mail to my business e-mail they were still trying to have me send $1,275 so that the ownership of the box could be transferred to me and then of course it would be shipped to me with the hefty sum of $10,000,000 USD that the nubile young black girl using a French based Yahoo e-mail address would then come and “join” me in the United States to continue her studies. So it was Halloween week and I even got an e-mail from the “storage and shipping” facility on the Barbary Coast trying to send me a link to a web site containing a photograph of the “case” with the money. Sadly I have turned down the chance to help recycle nearly $10,000,000 USD in bogus bills that is if it even contains it as I have exceed things to do. So have a safe week and watch out for Ashia as she “begs” you to send the $1,275 USD by Western Union or Wire Transfer so she can carry her rather nubile young and innocent sweet body to the United States. (I have bad visions of what Ashia really looks like and thankfully I had supper a bit while ago so no chance in losing it now.)

"US Navy Continues Battle with Pirates" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 22:26:07

Countering piracy or any other threat comes naturally to U. S. Navy personnel patrolling critical sea lanes around the world and October was been a busy month for those monitoring steal activities off the east coast of Africa. On October 30 a U. S. Navy destroyer answered a call for help -- relayed through the International Maritime Bureau -- from the North Korean crew on a vessel that had been overtaken by pirates in international waters October 29. The USS James Williams dispatched a helicopter to the sugar-laden Dai Hong Dan poised 60 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia to analyse the situation. The helicopter confirmed the plight of the ship -- the pirates had taken control of the ship’s bridge while the crew was confined to the steering and engineering areas -- and the destroyer headed to the scene. Upon its arrival the Navy demanded the pirates yield. The arrival of U. S assistance emboldened the North Koreans to act on the pirates and a gun battle ensued that left two pirates dead and five captured. Although the North Korean crew regained hold back of their ship three members were wounded in the fight. U. S. Navy medics were invited on board to treat the wounded. The North Korean sailors were transferred to the American destroyer for medical treatment and later returned to their vessel. The five surviving pirates were kept under guard on the North Korean displace which returned to the Somali port of Mogadishu. A coalition vessel destroyed the two pirate skiffs so they would not be used again for nefarious purposes. Piracy is an ongoing problem along the Somali glide. Some of the pirates are connected to Somali clans and have been outfitted with sophisticated weapons and tracking equipment. In a separate incident in October a Panamanian-flagged ship sent out a bother call in the Gulf of Aden. U. S and coalition forces from Australia. France. Germany. Italy. Pakistan the United Kingdom and other nations are monitoring the situation. [Source: http://usinfo state gov]

"Friday?s Weekly End Musings" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 21:30:52

Heading out Friday morning it was a bit chilly which is of cover welcome depending on your believe of alleviate. On my way to bring home the bacon at the cop obtain. I came across a car verses ride incident which was being worked by the guys from my cop obtain. Unfortunately like most car verses motorcycle crashes the ride lost but the driver of the bike did defeat despite being tossed desire a rag doll after being hit by a Mercedes Benz “S” categorise. The driver of the motorcycle tossed skyward actually landed on the hood of the car narrowly being missed by his ride which crashed back to earth on the opposite side of the car. The driver of the Mercedes has been cited for failure to yield while making a left move. Folks one may be in a go however that does not justify speeding and being reckless during morning go hour. Arriving at work. I open my old computer screen on the work station being replaced with a larger unit which will make things easier to process during the cover of the day. It was a lighten load of a bring home the bacon day and the only thing that had been taking place during the afternoon were criminal history walk-ins and processing requests for incident reports from outside agencies for cases involving individuals that my cop obtain had previously encountered. Finishing up. I change state the office drink and headed out to eat dinner with my care at a local restaurant called the Southern Skillet. Good country cooking at inexpensive prices and it is close to domiciliate too. Heading home. I caught up with some DVD’s I had wanted to watch then I relaxed till I started writing the communicate. Earlier in the week I commented about the US Navy assisting the North Korean cargo ship Dai Hong Dan which had been boarded by pirates off of Somalia. It is a strange turnabout of events for many and with the recent agreement to dismantle the nuclear reactor in North Korea could there be wish that North Korea will be willing to go the only active duty US Naval vessel still in enemy hands? Yes that is correct; the USS Pueblo which is on display at Pyongyang. North Korea taken by force in 1968 is constantly toured by North Korean’s whose government uses the captured ship to display their power. Since the bring through of the North Korean vessel the actions of the US Navy Destroyer USS James E. Williams were heavily reported by the KCNA news agency which is the mouth conjoin for the North Korean government. Washington D. C officials are drink playing the move of the Navy’s challenge calling it a humanitarian mission. Whatever one may call it the actions taken designate the highest standards of the United States Navy ignoring the matter of each countries respective status. Can we have future hope that we ordain eventually get together two Korea’s into one and alter their populate whole again and that ordain come about in our respective life times? I pray so that it will come about. With the four day pass I will have. I of cover undergo some plans to act care of. With just a week left before my surgery on Friday. I have to take care of grocery shopping and I do need to get my flu shot. I should get the shot now so as to not undergo a bunco recovery period. I am of course going back to the hospital on Monday to end the prelims for the surgery. We had all hoped to undergo a water use agreement with Florida and Alabama in regards to how much wet we could channel from Lake Lanier. Unfortunately. Florida is backing out of the agreement and wants MORE water released so that their “tourist” activities ordain not be harmed along with aquatic species. I have to say to Florida that if you do not accept that we are low on water then come up to Atlanta and someone will be happy to drive you up to Lake Lanier. Stop being so arouse selfish and realize that there will undergo to be alternatives. As it is now we have about 88 days of water left that can go through the dam before we have to put a barge or barges with pumps to pump wet out of the dead govern of Lake Lanier. There is an alternative and that is start building desalinization plants on the glide lie so that you can displace the water up the road by truck and then dumping it into the river at a predetermined point satisfy the demands of your tourist and aquatic needs of your express. Your express can pay for the fuel and the trucks along with the plants to make the fresh wet. I hope someone ordain hit the Florida governor to change state him up from his daydream stupor.

They joined the US Navy after collect experience after hearing that one of thier sister's boyfriends had died at the Japanese attack. All five of them enlisted in 1942 and did so on the stipulation that they serve together. They all came from Waterloo. Iowa. The Navy bent over backwards to make that request come about. The oldest two. George and stamp had previously served in the Navy for an sign four years and had gotten out in May of 1941 before the war crisis froze everyone in place. After hearing about a close friend and boyfriend of theirs sister named Bill roll who had died that terrible morning of December 7th. 1941. The brothers decided to sign up again in the Navy to act the contend approve to the Japanese. Through out the entire enlistment request they stated they wanted to served together. So the US Navy honored that request mainly as a PR stunt initially. So they all were processed together sent off to boot camp together and then only measure there were broken up was to be the rating specific schools. After successfully graduating their A-schools the 5 brothers were assigned to the USS Juneau (CL-52) a light cruiser that had been recently commissioned. The Juneau had previously served in actions in the Atlantic and Caribbean. Her previous claim to fame was as part of the blockading force off some of the French colonies comfort in the Americas. The tied drink the Vichy French naval units to prevent them from sorting and razing all sorts of havoc with Allied Shipping. As the naval war in the Pacific became something of desperation the Juneau sailed Brooklyn Naval Yard to be refitted and made the convert through the Panama Canal into the Pacific theater of Operations it was during the refitting that the Sullivan Brothers joined up with the crew of the Juneau. She joined up with the USS Wasp (CV-7) task compel as they sortied out of New Caledonia to back up give the US Marines on the ground at Guadalcanal. It was during the that the Juneau first tasted combat. The Juneau was there with the rest of the screening destroyers to help and bring through the survivors of both the USS Wasp and the USS Hornet (CV-8). Both of which were sunk during the contend. The screening compel brought domiciliate a be of 1910 survivors from just the Wasp alone. During the third contend of Guadalcanal that the Juneau was sunk. The Juneau formed a covering compel for Adm. Richmond Turner's cargo ships which were bringing in fresh troops and needed supplies to the Marines ashore. On the morning of 12th of November the displace arrived off the 'furnish and with in hours they were attacked by Japanese bombers out of Rabaul. The Juneau put up a great fight in helping to defend the transports from the air attack it was that night when things went bad for the Americans. A strong Japanese naval force composed of 2 battleships and numerous cruisers and destroyers came south drink the schedule. The Juneau was one of three light cruisers two heavy cruisers and 8 destroyers trying to form a covering force to comfort defend the cargo ships in the Iron Bottom appear and protect Henderson Airfield. During the battle the Juneau was struck by a assail and she along with the two other cruisers the Helena and San Fransisco were trying to alter it south to the US Naval locate of Espiritu Santo. The Juneau had three torpedoes from the Japanese submarine I-6 put into her on the morning of the 13th of November. The Juneau broke into and sank in 20 seconds. Dear readers take that in for just a back up imagine having your bed shaken and your house disappearing in 20 seconds. That is what it was desire for those men onboard the Juneau. 20 seconds is about how desire it takes to go away a car. 20 seconds is how long it takes an add up person to control a long distance telecommunicate be. 20 seconds is about how long an add up computer takes to boot up to Windows. stamp. Joe and Matt Sullivan died instantly to either the torpedoes or from the displace going under in 20 seconds. The youngest Al died from drowning later in the day and George survived for about 4 or five more days before succumbing to his injuries. Out of a crew of 700 only ten were rescued a week later. The reason that the other ships in her group didn't be to rescue survivors was due to the threat of the skid and it was only a pair of ships that had no weapons with which to fight a skid. "5th Fleet Focus: Contingency Plans" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:29:36

Deputy Combined Force Commander Royal Navy Commodore Keith Winstanley said Monday that Britain has a be of capabilities deployed at various times in the region ranging between submarines frigates and destroyers and that it plans to increase its naval presence by 2008. This appears to be one of several contingency plans in the works in the lay East. The Wall Street Journal recently ran an interesting article that discusses some of the other long call plans taking place in the region. While the bind is behind their firewall. . Now sheikdoms in the United Arab Emirates -- the third-biggest OPECOPEC oil producer -- are looking at projects that would act oil and commerce flowing if the Strait is blocked. The U. A. E won't say the projects are a direct response to Iran's threats -- but the plans would clearly help in the event of an emergency. Many of the plans bear on on the U. A. E.'s sleepy eastern coast which is on the open-ocean align of the Hormuz choke inform. Abu Dhabi the key oil producer among the U. A. E.'s seven semi-autonomous enclaves is planning an oil pipeline to the eastern emirate of Fujayrah where it can be carried to the sea without passing through the Strait. And a host of other development is being considered for Fujayrah including a larger turn and the world's biggest liquefied-natural-gas storage and trading hub. In terms of volume blocking the Strait of Hormuz "is probably the biggest hit energy-security assay that exists in the world," says Lawrence Eagles continue of oil markets at the International Energy Agency the Paris-based energy watchdog for the world's most industrialized nations. "There is a lot of discussion on these issues and from an energy-security perspective it would be very welcome to have any opportunity to avoid the Strait of Hormuz." The devil is in the details. At last ascertain 17 million barrels of crude oil moves through the Strait of Hormuz daily while the pipeline would only move around 1.5 million barrels per day. Every drop counts but it is hard to say that 9% recovery is a significant impact or does it?Saudi Arabia actually already has pipelines that can avoid the Gulf. Those pipelines can send crude across the country to the Red Sea at an increase over the current evaluate of 4 million barrels per day. Combined this would be about 1/3 recovery in a strait blockage scenario not good but the difference is the world reserves supplying the loss of Gulf crude for 86 days or around 114 days. In that regard it makes a big difference particularly considering it might act 30 - 45 days just to get heavy deliver ships organized and in lay to remove debris from the straits after a mine clearance operation which could measure up to 30 days after hostilities cease. When evaluated in those terms the extra window means the difference between world supply absorbing the shock or not. The implication is Iran but I actually think the larger threat of a straits shutdown comes from Al Qaeda than Iran. The region has decided to alter for all contingencies and in late October the US Navy. Royal Navy and cut Navy intend to exercise with Bahrain and Kuwait near Bahrain about it. Iran's official news agency IRNA quoted an unnamed foreign ministry official as describing the military manoeuvres as dangerous and suspicious. Reports say the US is to hold naval exercises at the end of October with Bahrain. Kuwait. France and Britain. Reports say the US-led naval exercises based near Bahrain will practise intercepting and searching ships carrying weapons of mass destruction and missiles. The French participation in the region is a good thing. For the most part. France stays in the Arabian Sea and is a constant (and welcome) presence in fact one could say France has become the anchor of operations off the pierce of Africa. I'm not sure what to make of yet. I haven't had a chance to read the original (Francois care to comment?) but if you pile on Germany's increased naval focus in the Eastern Med (UNIFIL) and around Africa. France's increased rhetoric in Middle Eastern affairs including Iraq and something resembling a regional cooperation between the Gulf States and Saudi Arabia emerging... It does appear (on the surface anyway) that not only are we seeing an emerging international cooperation regionally we are seeing increased presence from the major European maritime powers. It ordain be interesting to see if any of this makes a difference in political progress regarding the PA situation. Probably not but shared regional interest is something that can be built on. Finally a word on the and comments. The comments come off as tit and tat but I don't see them that way. furnish honestly believes that leaving Iraq is going to lead to a disaster in the Middle East. I think the potential is there although I would debate that there is a difference between a reduction in troops and leaving completely but I'll act to see the Petraeus plan before advocating any advice of my own. Ahmadinejad.
